STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
The Diocese granted a Faculty giving us permission to carry out repairs to the stained glass windows and surrounding stonework on the South and West walls of the Church. The work began in January 2025. The windows were removed and the repair and restoration has been carried out by Recclesia. The task of replacing some of the stonework around the windows was completed in October and we are delighted to report that all the stained glass windows are now back in place and looking absolutely beautiful.
The Windows’ Appeal Fund was launched in early 2022 and we are very grateful to St Gwenfaen’s congregation and friends for their continued support in helping to raise over £36k to cover the cost of the restoration – thank you.
INTERIOR – CEILING REPAIRS & LIME PAINTING
We had initially planned for the repairs and painting of the ceiling to be undertaken at the same time as painting the walls. However, due to the rapid deterioration of the plaster, repairs to the ceiling were carried out urgently as a matter of health and safety. We are still waiting for a faculty to be granted before the remainder of the work can begin and anticipate that the total cost could now exceed the original quote of £9,500. The work is well overdue but it was necessary to complete the restoration of the windows before embarking on this next project. Various fund raising events continue to take place but any donations to the Restoration Fund are always very much appreciated.
